Functional Fitness Training


Functional Training is a method of physical training, that works to improve physical fitness related to health. In addition, it supports muscular performance and aids in the prevention of muscular-skeletal injury. An important characteristic of Functional Training is biomotor skills which is fundamental to the human body, supporting the efficient production of movement.

One of many advantages of this method of training is that it serves both the needs of someone with advanced physical conditioning as well as someone beginning physical conditioning. The MCBJJ Functional Training program is for anyone and everyone!

Functional Training is a method even more dynamic than conventional training (bodybuilding). It is characterized by merging different physical abilities in the same exercise; thus, the focus is not just on an isolated muscle group but several groups at the same time.

What are the affects? Beyond muscle toning, training is applied in the development of several physical abilities. This makes the body expend a greater amount of energy. Functional Training contributes to the improvement of flexibility, weight loss, the optimization of motor coordination, a gain in balance and cardio respiratory conditioning. Most importantly, this special training supports the essential personal motivation, high self-esteem and perseverance needed to cause the human body to have a high energy expenditure.

About Instructor:

Rafael Oliveira graduated with a degree in Physical Education. He has five years of experience with Functional Training, two years of experience in physical rehabilitation after surgery, Functional Training for athletes (tennis, football and basketball), two years as Physical Trainer to a 15 and under amateur soccer (football) team, and instructor of the Introduction to Functional Fitness training at MCBJJ, for all ages

About Marcelo Cavalcanti

Marcelo Cavalcanti has over 28 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has developed a curriculum with a large variety of drills and techniques that effectively evaluate a student’s progress. To optimize the learning process, students are taught in separated groups in accordance with their skills and experience. The curriculum was designed to help students at all levels to achieve the best result for their time and effort.
